The Winery Block is our smallest estate vineyard and is contiguous to the winery’s tasting room and the Silice Vineyard. Planted in 2002 and expanded in 2005 to include three clones of Pinot Noir, this ultra-high density vineyard is too tightly packed with vines to farm with mechanization, so all farming, pruning, cultivating, hedging, and harvesting is done by hand. This beautiful, but labor-intensive terroir, yields only one fermentation per year and is allocated exclusively to our wine club membership, with only 4-10 barrels of wine produced per year.
A beautiful color of black raspberry leads to a complex cologne-like aromatic bouquet of cedar wood, incense, sweet and savory spices, citrus oils, freshly turned earth, smoke, and savory herbs from the 100% whole-cluster fermentation.
The wine is bright and tangy, with a distinguished briny, salty swath of natural, juicy acidity which frames its bright, red fruit flavors. It is soft and plush, with ample acidity keeping the wine lively and intriguing, and the use of no new oak keeps the wine focused on its elegance and terroir expression, heightened by a tight-knit, fine tannic structure.
