The Ribbon Ridge is one of America’s finest, smallest, and most precious appellations for Pinot Noir; it is definitely a superstar in our lineup of Willamette Valley wines. Le Pré du Col is our 16-acre estate-farmed vineyard on the Ribbon Ridge. Planted in 2006, it includes seven different clonal blocks of Pinot Noir and one block of Chardonnay on a magnificent southern-facing slope. Guarded by stands of old growth Douglas Fir to the East and West, the Le Pré du Col Vineyard enjoys a perfect exposure with limited early morning and late afternoon sunshine, which extends its ripening season and delivers world-class wines year after year. This is a great terroir of sandy marine sedimentary soils atop sand-stone and shale bedrocks; the 2015 is a classic!
The 2015 Le Pré du Col Pinot Noir is a gorgeous ruby, with hints of violet in color. It has a classic Le Pré du Col bouquet of blueberry fruit, cinnamon spice, incense and a distinct reductive, loamy earth character. The wine has a fantastic umami character of savory elements in the nose and on the palate. The 2015 Le Pré du Col is rich and lavishly structured with fine and plentiful tannins and acidity, and there is a distinct rare wood character reminiscent of a fine Vosne-Romanée. This Pinot Noir is a youthful wine that needs a year or two of patience. It is a great expression of rock and earth and very old world in style.
