This is the tenth release of our most special Pinot Noir, which is a barrel selection from our estate vineyards. The Homage Pinot Noir is an annual heartfelt tribute to the Oregon Winemaking community, which eclipses all other wine regions in the world with its sense of communal cooperation towards a mutual goal of quality. For more than 50 years, the men and women of the Willamette Valley have worked together and in harmony as friends to help create one of the world’s preeminent winegrowing regions for Pinot Noir. Oregon has been blessed with a friendly work ethic, cooperation, and a mutual admiration society of brands that oftentimes promotes our great state before our individual efforts.
Homage Pinot Noir is the Pinot Noir equivalent of our Sigrid Chardonnay, in that it is our finest barrels from our five estate vineyards that best captures the vintage, the Bergström style, and our defining regional wine character of succulent acidity, elegant textures, and age-worthy structure.
*A portion of all proceeds from the sales of 2017 Homage Pinot Noir will be donated to the ¡SALUD! Wine auction, a homegrown event which has helped to provide Oregon field workers with free health and dental care for over 25 years.
The 2017 Homage Pinot Noir is a bright, youthful, and black cherry shade of red and although one could say that its explosive, knockout aromatic bouquet is very Burgundian, better yet, it is purely Oregonian with fresh dark fruits, savory herbs, a reductive meaty earthy note, and sweet baking spices that unfold and develop by the minute. This wine is lovely now with richness, a sweet, lush, and fruity mid-palate, and a long silky, spicy finish. You could drink this wine now, but I challenge most of us to try to resist its beauty for the next 5 years and then drink it from 2024-2030+. For collectors of Homage, I would liken this vintage to the 2008, 2011, and 2013, which are some of the greatest of all time under this label.
