2023 Silice Vyd Chardonnay
Silice: A Bergström Wines Estate
Planted 2001 * Chehalem Mountains AVA * Elevation: 400ft
The French word for “Silica,” the shiny quartz in sand, Silice has the deepest sandy soils of any of our estate vineyards. This 20-acre vineyard sprawls over four different rolling sandy hillsides in the Chehalem Mountains AVA and most probably is a 60 million-year-old sand dune or beach. Silice sees all-day, unrelenting sun exposure, and strong winds that give the Pinot Noirs spicy powerful notes of gingerbread, cola and sassafras, with a mild savory and pretty floral lift while Silice Chardonnay is textural, bright, and delicate with a citrusy floral bouquet. Winemaker Notes
Updated February 2025
This powerhouse of an electric, mineral-laden Chardonnay opens with the lively scent of pink peppercorns and the delicate sweetness of bee pollen and honey. Underlying notes of toffee brittle and a refreshing touch of verbena tea. The combination creates a layered, enticing bouquet that draws you in. On the palate, bright lemon candies burst with citrus zest, and although a dry wine, it has an elusively delicious touch of sweetness. Fresh ginger and wood spice contribute to this wine's complexity, balancing its vivacious energy. At its core, Silice Chardonnay offers a juicy sweetness with white pineapple and lemon. The subtle presence of new oak supports the wine's rich texture without overwhelming the fruit, leaving a crisp, succulent finish that lingers with a delicate sweetness.
