Winery Block: A Bergström Wines Estate
Planted 2002-2005 * Chehalem Mountains AVA * Elevation: 400ft
At only 1.3 precious acres of vines, planted as densely as we dare, and farmed entirely by hand, the Winery Block Vineyard is more a bonsai garden of vines than a traditional vineyard. Aromatically explosive 100% whole cluster Pinot Noirs that are richly structured and with an exotic spicy bouquet. A few years of patient cellaring are always rewarded. Learn more about Winery Block
Winemaker Notes
*Updated in February 2024
Ageworthy, powerful, and balanced, the Winery Block is our highest-density planting and the most labor-intensive site, farmed only by hand (no easy feat), and represents our smallest case production. The love put into this vineyard shows with the effusive aromatic perfume of red cherry, Chinese five spice, wild fennel, black licorice, and savory herbs. With a few years of age, it expresses violets, bouillon, and morning dew on freshly tilled earth. The palate is focused and balanced with dried cherries, oregano, and Sungold tomato jam. Fermentation using whole clusters results in lasting spice and powerful stem tannins that are evolved and smooth. This wine always impresses every celebratory table. Drink Now-2028.
*Notes from original release in 2019
Black cherry in color and has a lovely and serious Pinot Noir bouquet of dark cherries, wild strawberries, blueberry candies, forest floor, wild game, leather, violets, black licorice, and sweet baking spices. This wine has great sweetness of fruit on the nose, but the complexities of spice and savory kitchen-like aromas take this wine to another level. One of the more full-bodied 2017 Pinot Noirs in the lineup, this is a satisfying wine with rich cherry and dark cane berry flavors with sweet baking spices echoing on the long, rich, and lavish finish. Its great fine tannins are already melting into the wine’s juicy and bright natural acidity, making this a great cellar candidate, but it is already too hard to resist a glass! Drink now through 2035+.
