Winery Block: A Bergström Wines Estate
Planted 2002-2005 * Chehalem Mountains AVA * Elevation: 400ft
At only 1.3 precious acres of vines, planted as densely as we dare, and farmed entirely by hand, the Winery Block Vineyard is more a bonsai garden of vines than a traditional vineyard. Aromatically explosive 100% whole cluster Pinot Noirs that are richly structured and with an exotic spicy bouquet. A few years of patient cellaring are always rewarded. Learn more about Winery Block
Winemaker Notes
Updated January 2023
Bright ruby in color with a nose expressing its whole-cluster inclusion with aromatics of redwoods, pepper jam, and heliotropes. Its sweet succulent body is layered with autumnal spices, toasted coffee, and anise. The mid-palate exudes chocolate covered cherries and sarsaparilla candy. Large format has done this wine justice in the aging process. There is persisting complexity and a savory, strawberry finish with round tannins and lingering acidity.
Notes from Original Release in 2018
A production team favorite, the 2016 Winery Block Pinot Noir has a dark Ruby red color and classic aromas of licorice, sassafras, dark cherry, dried and fresh savory herbs, dark chocolate, cola, smoked meat, tobacco and sweet baking spices. This wine has great weight without being overtly ripe or alcoholic, which speaks to the greatness of this vineyard. It has richness and fine-grained tannins but also great elegance and balance with silky suave flavors and textures. This is our most powerful and structured Pinot Noir deserving 3-5 years in the cellar before opening, and capable of aging well for 20-30 years in this special magnum format.
