Silice is our 21 acre estate vineyard that is continuous to the winery, located at the top of Calkins Lane in the Chehalem Mountain AVA. These 15+ million year old ocean beaches and sand dunes are now gentle rolling hills with full exposure to the sun and elements. This is our warmest vineyard site and is capable of powerful, robust, wines that are spice driven and very charming. The great structure often requires time in the bottle to soften.
The 2014 Silice Vineyard Pinot Noir has a very dark ruby color. This wine is robustly aromatic showcasing the sweet spicy and floral character that these silica-rich soils are known for with notes of: gingerbread, black licorice/anise, sweet violets, dark raspberry, red roses, black cherry and tar.
The flavor profile is of sweet candied dark fruits enveloped in suave but copious fine grained tannins. Youthful and charming at the same time.
Decant in 2016. Drink between 2017 and 2027+
